Adsense, from policy to restrictions

  • Adsense has made a minor, but significant change to the way it sets the policy and the restriction. To use Adsense is to go through Ayatollahs where anything is prohibited. In previous years, these policies escalated with a ban account if there were multiple successive violations.

    Subsequently, Adsense launched the automatic ads, you put a code on the header of your site and the Adsense robot takes care of finding the best advertising spots … in theory. Even so often, he throws them anywhere. This automation meant that we had very little control over the placement of ads.

    And to think that when Adsense started, you got people who got rich writing entire ebooks about how best to get ads on the page by looking at visitor behavior. What a time! The current change indicates that what is a policy now becomes a restriction. With automatic ads, Adsense marked banned content and the robot displayed very few or no ads on the page.

    And manual exclusions didn’t work too much. Some of my pages, which were not compliant, continued to be flagged, even though they had been banned from the robot a long time ago. Policies indicate what content cannot be monetized. For example, sexual, offensive content, weapons, drugs, etc.

    Now Google still bans them, but places them as a restriction. This is a little more than semantics, because it means that we are not as flagged as before, even if it exists. Adsense leaves it up to advertisers to decide whether they want to continue showing the ad in a sensitive category. We can take the example of alcohol. Alcohol is banned from monetizing on Adsense, but it is now, it will no longer be reported.

    It’s just that there will be hardly any or very few advertisements on these pages. There are several reasons behind this major change in mindset at Adsense. The first is that Google has lost the advertising battle. Facebook, Tik Tok or Telegram are more and more serious competitors and therefore, it must relax the conditions for users to stay at home.

    Then the over-automation created a lot of false positives because the Adsense bot is basically very dumb and can ban advertising on legitimate pages. I mean, he managed to find some forbidden content in one of my articles dealing with pure philosophy!
